Rise and Shine

I learnt that courage was not the absence of fear; but the triumph over it.

The brave man is not he who does not feel fear, but he who conquers that fear.”

Nelson Mandela

Many of the most successful people in the world attribute their winning mindset to an impactful, consistent morning routine.  From creating a small sense of accomplishment through early rising, to energising through exercise, to creating stillness through meditation; to focusing through affirmations, visualisation and intention setting; the little practices that they do religiously every day set them up to be more effective in life.

For myself, there is no doubt that I am not only more productive, make better decisions, but am an all-around much happier person when my morning routine is consistent.  My routine does change slightly over time, but there are certain elements that must be present, and through them have prepared myself for an awesome day.

My biggest challenge to my morning routine is the fact that I am a night owl by nature.  I know that when my evening routine is good, and I hit the sack early, then my morning routine will be right on track.  So, for me my morning routine really starts the night before.  Most of my energy gets put into avoiding the temptation to frivolously waste my evening away – although occasionally it’s good – we got to have balance.

I have a holistic approach to my morning routine including different practices that speak to my body, mind, heart and soul.  I also ensure that the practices are not only about setting up my day but form part of a larger vision towards living a life of meaning and purpose.
